Attendance- Excused Absences with Parent Notification

Posted Date: 9/24/25 (10:02 AM)

Dear Parent/Guardian,

At Marble Falls ISD, we believe that regular school attendance is essential to every student’s academic success. We are committed to partnering with families to support students in attending school consistently and staying engaged in their learning.

We understand there may be times when a student needs to miss school due to illness or other personal matters that may not require a doctor’s visit. To support families while meeting state attendance requirements, Marble Falls ISD allows up to 3 days of excused absences per school year with a parent/guardian notification.

A common example of an excused absence with a parent note is when a student is experiencing a personal illness and is unable to attend school. In these cases, parent/guardian notification must be submitted to the school within 5 school days of the student’s return. Notification includes a note, an email, or a phone call to the attendance office.  When providing this notification, please include the following:

  • The student’s full name
  • The date(s) of the absence
  • The reason for the absence
  • The parent/guardian signature if providing a handwritten note

Once a student exceeds the 3 allowable excused absences with notification, any additional absences will require official documentation from a healthcare provider to be considered excused.

If you have any questions or need additional support related to attendance, please contact the campus attendance clerk. We appreciate your attention to this attendance procedure and your continued partnership in supporting your child’s education.

Sincerely,

Stan Whittle
